Don't Eat Like The Dog!
Do you eat like my dog Lincoln? Do you roll your bite full of food around your molars, give it a few obligatory bites but ultimately you swallow it mostly whole. Is dinner time just a mouth to the plate shovelling it in as fast as possible because there is something that needs to happen but this pesky thing called hunger got in the way? I know some of you, my father included (Dad, I am watching you), eat distracted, fast and do not thoroughly chew your food. But, Sarah! What’s the big deal? It is a huge deal and let me tell you why! Chewing your food is the first part of the digestion process! Chewing your food properly and thoroughly helps create more surface area for your digestive enzyme to work to help breakdown your food into useable parts for your body to function, to re-build tissue, to fuel your body and your brain among other things! It also helps out your stomach so it doesn’t have to work so hard when the food is in there! If you suffer from bloating, heaviness or feel sleepy after meals an easy way to help your poor stomach out is to SLOW DOWN while eating, THOROUGHLY CHEW and AVOID DISTRACTIONS. Happy Eating!!
