It's Strawberry Season
Nothing is better than a fresh locally grown strawberry! The difference in taste from an imported berry pales in comparison, is it even the same fruit??
The season is short for these guys so get them while they are fresh and tasty.
Not only are these berries delicious but they are the highest in Vitamin C than any of the other berries, with good amounts of iron and some Vitamin A.
It’s interesting to note that iron needs Vitamin C in order to be absorbed, so the strawberry is a great way to fight off the effects of anemia avoiding fatigue and hair loss!! Making sure you are getting enough Vitamin C will support your immune system and your adrenal glands.
Strawberries are so versatile, they can be enjoyed on their own, in homemade granola, in a muffin, in jam, a quick bread, on top of yogurt, in chia pudding or in a scone. Or if you prefer more savoury dishes like a salad, or part of a fresh salsa for a piece of grilled fish. However you enjoy strawberries be creative and have fun with them!!
A Quick Strawberry Salsa
Rough chop strawberries and combine with finely diced red onion, cilantro, Jalapeño (to taste), lime juice and some lime zest, salt and pepper.
Use on top of grilled fish, on tacos, tortilla chips or grilled vegetables.
I would love to hear how you like to use strawberries! Feel free to reach out and share your favourite recipes and ideas!
Happy cooking and eating!
