The Importance of Supplements: Why Diet Isn't Enough

I used to believe that we should be able to get all of our body’s nutrients from a well balanced and varied diet. Well, I got schooled on that cute sentiment while learning about nutrition.

I wish we could get all our necessary vitamins and minerals from the food we eat, but that ship sailed along time ago.

We lose 1% of our top and its nutrients annually.

This is a resource that is not renewable, once it’s gone its gone. Soil erosion is just one factor in the depletion of nutrients in our food and we can thank monoculture, pesticide/fungicide and pollution for that.

Unfortunately, our food today is significantly less nutritious.

The #1 Health Trend You should Be Doing

Happy New Year!!

I hope everyone had a fantastic Christmas and New Year!!

Well it’s time to get back to healthy habits and healthy meals!

I am not much of a trend girl but this is the one piece of advice that I tell all my clients to do no matter what ails them, and that is,

  • TO START THE DAY WITH A CUP OF WARM WATER AND THE JUICE OF HALF A FRESH LEMON

Simple and a bit on the boring side I know but, this tiny little thing can make a big impact on your health!

Here are the benefits of incorporating this into your morning routine:

Plastic In Our Tea Cups

I came across this article on line and was quite horrified, my English Gramma is rolling in her grave, “What is the world coming to?”

I made a commitment last year to switch to loose tea from the convenience of the tea bag, because the waste seemed unnecessary. I had no idea there is plastic in tea bags.

The BBC has a video testing a few of the most popular teas in England for plastics. The scientists soak the various tea bags in a solution of cooper ammonia for 5 days to allow for everything to dissolve except plastic!

Have You Started to Supplement Vitamin D?

Winter means a lot less sunshine especially if you live north of the 49th parallel, and especially if you live on the West coast (like I do), where we can go for several days even weeks without seeing the sun! UGH!

Yep, poor Vitamin D is having a hard time being produced by our bodies during the winter because of the lack of sunshine. So, it is important to supplement Vitamin D at this time of the year.

Supplementing vitamin D is essential for our bone health, teeth, nervous system, heart function and normal blood clotting.

I know there are some people who believe that we shouldn’t have to supplement any nutrients as long as you eat a healthy and balanced diet. I understand that however, you are not what you eat but what you digest. What you eat healthy or not including, supplements, is at the mercy of your digestion.

Allergy Part 3: Steps to Take to Avoid Allergy

I was a wheezie, sneezie asthmatic kid. I suffered terribly with allergies, they started in late spring and lasted well into September. I would buy the bulk packs of allergy pills and would often switch mid summer to a different brand because they were no longer working for me. I will spare you the details but, be certain it was very uncomfortable and I was miserable most of the spring and summer.

As an adult, I thought I was doing all the right things, I ate fairly well, exercised and I assumed that these allergies were something I needed to accept and live with.

I was wrong!
